Commercial Property Underwriter

As a Commercial Property Underwriter, you will be accountable for high quality underwriting of commercial property insurance policies in compliance with company underwriting guidelines. Depending upon your level of experience, and industry knowledge, you will analyze, assess, evaluate, and determine acceptance of risks at all levels of complexity. You will have the ability to work in a collaborative team environment and be a positive influence within our work setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, accept, and decline submissions, within assigned underwriting authority
  • Identify coverage discrepancies and provide alternative coverage solutions if required
  • Rating/Pricing of low to complex risks using sound underwriting judgement
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Provide prompt responses to broker inquires as required
  • Negotiate mutually acceptable terms and conditions with brokers
  • Request, review, and take appropriate action on Loss Control Inspection Reports
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand policy wordings
  • Participate in insurance industry functions and events

Requirements

  • Prefer 3-5 years of direct commercial property underwriting experience or direct insurance experience
  • All levels of experience can apply; recent grads from insurance program welcome to apply or applicants with many years of experience
  • CIP Designation – completed or willing to obtain
  • Proven decision-making and analytical skills
  • Exceptional customer service and ability to negotiate and explain key points with clarity
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Strong knowledge of computers, MS Office programs and the ability to learn new software with ease
  • You are professional and courteous in all interactions, whether with policyholders, brokers, or co-workers
  • You perform well in a busy operation, remain calm under pressure and able to prioritize appropriately
